Kala Utsav meaning 'arts celebration' is a showcase of music, dance, poetry and visual arts by budding artists, staff and students of Kala Sangam.

New research by the Refugee Council and the University of Birmingham contains powerful evidence of refugees’ own experiences and understanding of integration.

Carried out in the London Borough of Haringey and Dudley in the West Midlands, the research is an important contribution to the debate about integration and settlement into Britain.

Bradford Council is working with its partners on a new high-level plan setting out their vision and direction for the future of the District. This “Sustainable Community Strategy” must identify the challenges they face, and the goals they want to achieve.

Bradford Council are asking citizens, councillors, staff, community groups, organisations and anyone who has a stake in the future of this great District to let them know how they can make it an even better place.

Communities Secretary Hazel Blears today announced a ten-point action plan to promote cohesion and tackle community tensions including £50million investment.

This is part of the Government's response to the 10-month review by the Commission on Integration and Cohesion which looked at the major challenges Britain faces in responding to increasing change in local communities. To read more, click on the link below.

Equalities and Human Rights Commission opens

The Equalities and Human Rights Commission (previously known as the Commission for Equality and Human Rights) opened on 1 October 2007.

It replaces the Commission for Racial Equality (CRE), the Disability Rights Commission (DRC) and the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC), as well as enforcing legislation protecting people from discrimination on the grounds of age, religion and belief, sexual orientation and transgender status and promoting compliance with the Human Rights Act.
The CRE, DRC and EOC are now closed. Material from their organisational websites has been transferred to the new Commission's website at www.equalityhumanrights.com

Commission on Integration and Cohesion

The final report of the Commission on Integration and Cohesion, Our Shared Future, was published on June 14th.

The report sets out the steps needed to build strong, cohesive and integrated communities. The recommendations include suggestions for local action as well as calls for a national framework to capture and support what is taking place across the UK. The Diversity Exchange hosted a consultation visit earlier in the year and look forward to hearing the Government’s response later in the autumn.
